March 11th: Quebec Day of commemoration for victims of Covid-19

n March 11, commemorate the victims of COVID-19 by lighting stars in their memory A Montreal-based organization – Dard (acronym for Dynamique d’accompagnement et de rituel de deuil) proposes displaying a star in the name of a loved one who passed away within the last year in connection with the pandemic, and by burning a candle in the window, synchronized to occur at 7 p.m.

The ritual represents one of the possible ways to participate in the national day of commemoration in memory of the victims of COVID-19 declared by Quebec Premier François Legault.

As a diocese we also wish to honour the memory of those who died during the pandemic. If you know anyone who died during the pandemic, you are invited to send an email to communications@diocesemontreal.org mentioning their names and date of death.

Archbishop Christian Lépine will preside a Mass on March 11 at 5:00 p.m. for this occasion at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral. The Mass will be broadcast on the diocese’s YouTube channel. Through Mary’s prayer, let us entrust the deceased and the bereaved to the gentleness and strength of Jesus Christ.

Pillars Trust Fund
February “The Heart of Giving!” month

What do Valentine and Lent have in common? LOVE! Why? Both express love for one another. “Be my Love!” and “God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son” are closer in meaning than we think. We are sharing God’s love for us when we share that love with those who need our help.

Pillars Trust can help you help others. By sharing your love through Pillars, you will be helping Ascension parish to reach out to your shut-in parishioners, young seminarians for the priesthood, social services . As we make our personal sacrifices for Lent perhaps, perhaps we can add a small donation to Pillars Trust that will be used for the benefit of the English Catholic Community. All donations $10 and more are eligible for a tax receipt.

Share Love, Share Lent:
(Re)discover Development and Peace

The Share Love, Share Lent campaign is inspired by Pope Francis’s encyclical, Fratelli Tutti and its call “for a love that transcends… geography and distance” and “allows us to acknowledge, appreciate and love each person.”

Each week, the campaign explores a different aspect of Development and Peace’s work and offers you ways to become involved.

This week, the Share Love, Share Lent campaign looks at how your solidarity is meaningful for Rohingya refugees and their host communities in Bangladesh. Please pray for communities affected by crises and help us to keep supporting them by contributing to the collection on the Fifth Sunday of Lent.
