All Saints’ / All Souls’ Day

All Saints’ Day:
November 1st is the Solemnity of All Saints. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained Heaven, all those recognized in the canon of the saints by the Catholic Church. This feast can be traced to the earliest Christians. We venerate them as we solicit their prayers, intercession and protection. We pray in our Apostles Creed,”I believe in the communion of saints.” On this day we pray to our favourite saints, but we also call upon our departed brothers and sisters whom we believe are already with God in His Divine Kingdom.

All Souls’ Day:
November 2nd is the Solemnity of All Souls. The custom and tradition of offering prayers for those who have died is ancient in origin. In the Old Testament there are records of people praying and offering sacrifices on behalf of those who died. In the tombs of the Roman catacombs we discover inscriptions with prayer requests for the deceased, and in the Canon of the mass in the Eucharistic prayers we pray for all the Faithful Departed. On All Souls Day in the universal Church we pray for all those in purgatory who are being purified as they await the beatific vision and resurrection.
Eternal rest grant unto them, and may perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed , through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Remembrance Book

There is in the sanctuary a Book of Remembrance with the names of parishioners who have recently died.

You are invited to add the names of your loved ones and friends who have died, and we will pray for them throughout the month of November.

Help us fill 100 bags!

October is Giving Thanks Month at Ascension!
Join us in celebrating our Centennial through community generosity by helping Sister Dianna stock her food bank.

Our Goal:
Fill 100 bags with non-perishable food items valued at $50 or more per bag.

The food bank has served the local community of Point St. Charles since the 1970s, when Sister Dianna Lieffers, Pastoral Assistant, took it over.
Now operating from a former dollar store on Centre Street, it provides food to more than 200 people each week.

Pick up a bag at the front of the church and add your name to the sign-up sheet.

Your Commitment:
Fill your bag with items from Sister Dianna’s Food Bank Wish List and return it to the Ascension at Mass by November 1.

Celebrating a historic milestone

For 100 years, Ascension of Our Lord Parish has been rooted in prayer, enriched by music, and strengthened by community.

We launched our yearlong celebration with a Centennial Opening Mass on
Sunday, May 24th, 2026

with Presider & Homilist  Father Raymond Lafontaine, E.V.
and concelebrant, our pastor Father Lawrence Mac Eachen followed by a vin d’honneur.

We look forward to many more occasions to celebrate in community  this year.

Food Bank Donation

We have a tradition in our parish to support the hungry on a more continuous basis. Over 860,000 Canadians visit food banks every month, with over 36% of the donations feeding hungry children.
